The AI Golden Circle Coach skill for Claude
You tell Claude in two sentences what your business does and where your communication gets stuck, and you get back a fully worked out Golden Circle: three Why variants to choose from, three to five How principles that work as a compass, a plain What list and three ready to use texts for your homepage, your LinkedIn bio and your pitch. Strictly following Simon Sinek's thinking, in the order he prescribes: from the inside out. And a Why that is secretly a What gets rejected by the skill itself.

Situation in, Golden Circle out
reg. G.001This is the worked example that sits in the SKILL.md itself, shown here in shortened form: a painting company from Tilburg with three staff. The input is deliberately ordinary, because that is how a real business talks about itself: skilled, reliable, fair price. Watch what the skill does with it. It does not invent a nicer business, it digs one layer deeper into the same business.
What the AI Golden Circle Coach is
The AI Golden Circle Coach is a free skill from our own library, one of the 100 we make available without an account. A skill is an instruction file, SKILL.md, that gives an AI assistant a fixed way of working for one task. Not software you install, not a subscription, not a course: one text file of 1,318 words that tells Claude how to apply Simon Sinek's Golden Circle to your business, brand, product or communication. Which questions it asks, in what order it builds out Why, How and What, what requirements every formulation has to meet, and which formulations it should reject. Want to know first what a skill actually is, read what Claude skills are NL.
The problem the skill solves shows up in one symptom: you can explain perfectly well what you do, but not why anyone should come to you for it. Your website opens with your services, your pitch is a list, and at parties you notice people nodding politely and moving on. That is not a writing problem but an ordering problem. This skill forces the reversed order: first the reason you exist, then the principles you work by, and only last the list of what you deliver.
It is written for entrepreneurs and marketers looking for distinction: anyone entering a new market, rewriting their website copy, stuck on their About page, or noticing that clients do not understand what the business does. It is part of the skill library NL we make available for free from the AI and automation service, without an account and without a sales email afterwards.
One thing you should know beforehand: the skill formulates, it does not invent. The three Why variants are built from your own answers to the diagnosis questions. Give shallow answers and you get a smooth text that is not yours. Give real answers, including the uncomfortable ones, and you get something you recognise and dare to use.
Why almost every business talks from the outside in
Ask any entrepreneur what their business does and you get the What: we make software for healthcare, we paint houses, we do online marketing. Ask about the How and it already gets quieter: with personal attention, with short lines of communication. Ask about the Why and the conversation falls silent, or you get a result: we want to grow, we want to be the best. That is exactly the situation Sinek drew the Golden Circle for. Most businesses communicate from the outside in, from What to Why, and the skill reverses that order.
The point is not that the What does not matter. The point is that the What is not distinctive. In every trade there are dozens of businesses delivering the same thing at a comparable price, and anyone who only communicates their What forces the client to compare on the one variable left over: price. The painting company from the skill's example was in exactly that position. Skilled, reliable and a fair price are not lies, they are interchangeable truths. Every competitor claims them too.
A sharp Why changes what there is to compare. Anyone who says what they stand for attracts clients who believe in that, and those clients do not compare on price but on trust. The How makes it credible, because every How line shows a choice that also excludes something: writing that you do not work for people who want to squeeze the price at the cost of quality also says something about who you do want to help. And the What then becomes the proof instead of the story.
In diff form, with lines from the skill's example: what goes out and what comes back in its place.
Three rings, one direction
reg. G.002The Golden Circle as the skill uses it: three concentric rings with the Why at the heart, and one permitted movement, from the inside out. The pulse in the figure runs in that direction. Sinek ties the rings to brain structure, and that is not decoration but the reason the order works.
What is actually in the SKILL.md
A skill is only as good as its instructions, so we simply describe them here. The file opens with frontmatter stating when Claude should pick up the skill: with the obvious keywords such as Golden Circle, Start with Why and purpose statement, but also with complaints such as my pitch does not land anywhere, I do not know what my business stands for, or write my About page. Say something like that to Claude while the skill is loaded and it gets picked up automatically.
The file then explains the framework itself, including the basis in brain structure, and the working method follows. The file announces four steps and then works out five, because the feedback got its own heading: diagnosis, the Why, the How, the What and the feedback. The diagnosis consists of at most five fixed questions, including the two that in practice loosen the most: what would be missing from the world if your business disappeared tomorrow, and which decision have you made that was financially illogical but that you are proud of. If you have already given plenty of context beforehand, the skill skips this step or only asks about the missing pieces.
The Why step is the strictest. Every variant has to meet six requirements: no jargon, no trade terms, one sentence, starting with a verb, personal rather than corporate, and usable outside the office, tested by whether a friend would say it about you too. The format used as a base is Sinek's own, translated into: verb in the present tense, audience or world, so that, change or new reality. You get three variants, each with a short note on how the nuance differs. The How step delivers three to five principles that each show a choice, are repeatable in everyday decisions and are checkable by an outsider. The What step is deliberately the dullest: five to ten concrete items, without marketing language.
The feedback rounds it off with three communication patches: a homepage hero of at most thirty words in the order Why, How, What, a LinkedIn bio of at most fifty words and a sixty second elevator pitch with the Why at its centre. The whole thing closes with the Sinek test: people do not buy what you do, they buy why you do it, with the question of whether your formulation passes that test. The fixed output structure comes to six blocks in total. Want to learn how to write a file like this yourself, writing SKILL.md NL explains that structure step by step.
A striking number of rules are about language. It writes in the you form, avoids buzzwords such as seamless, effortless and groundbreaking, uses no emoji and varies sentence length. And it guards the definition: a Why that is actually a What, such as we make software for healthcare, gets rejected, as does a Why that is actually a result, such as we are growing to ten million in revenue.
The theory the skill rests on
Strictly from the thinking of Simon Sinek, then, with three sources named: Start With Why from 2009, the more practical follow-up Find Your Why from 2017, and the TED talk How great leaders inspire action from 2009, one of the most watched TED talks ever. The file states honestly that the skill only uses publicly described concepts and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sinek or his organisation.
Start With Why supplies the model itself: the three rings, the direction from the inside out, and the biological basis. Sinek argues that the limbic brain, where Why and How land, drives behaviour and loyalty but has no language, while the neocortex, where the What lands, processes language and analysis. That explains an experience every entrepreneur knows: a client who says it simply feels right, and a prospect who understood every argument and still did not call back.
Find Your Why supplies the method: the Why is not invented but dug up from real stories and moments. That is why the skill's diagnosis asks about the moment you decided to start and about the financially illogical decision you are proud of. Those moments hold the conviction you already have, and the skill only phrases it more sharply than you would yourself. The format contribution-so-that-impact comes from this same book, and the skill translates it into a Dutch form that does not sound stiff.
For anyone wanting to look beyond the brand story: the Golden Circle connects to more disciplines from the same library. For personal purpose rather than business positioning there is the Ikigai Coach skill, and anyone who has the Why and wants to build the complete customer story around it moves on to the StoryBrand Writer skill. The line of thinking is related, the output differs: the Golden Circle Coach delivers your positioning, StoryBrand your story structure.
Even without installing the skill, you can test your own text with the model: does your Why actually appear in it, does your homepage open with your reason for existing or with your list of services, and does every How principle show a real choice or is it a compliment to yourself?
What the skill rejects
reg. G.003The writing rules in the SKILL.md are not style advice but a filter: six categories of formulation never get through, no matter how often you ask. In conversation, those rules play out like this. Every rule is a request you could make, with the response the skill gives according to its own instructions.
Installing in Claude Code, Claude.ai or Codex
The zip is 4.0 KB and contains one folder, ai-golden-circle-coach, with the SKILL.md inside. Installing is a matter of putting the file in the right place, and that place differs per environment. SKILL.md has been an open standard since December 2025, so the same skill also works in Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI. So you are not downloading a Claude file but a working instruction that any modern AI assistant can read. If you get stuck, the full route is in installing Claude skills NL.
- Unzip it into
~/.claude/skills/(or.claude/skills/in your project). - Claude then picks the skill up by itself as soon as you start on your Why, your positioning or your pitch.
- You can also call it directly, with
/ai-golden-circle-coach.
- Go to Customize and then Skills.
- Upload the zip there as a skill.
- Or paste the contents of SKILL.md into the project instructions of a Project.
- Open
AGENTS.mdin your repo. - Paste the contents of SKILL.md into it, or put SKILL.md next to it as a separate file and point to it from
AGENTS.md. - Codex reads that along at every session.
After that, using it is simple: explain in two or three sentences what your business does, who your clients are and where your communication gets stuck, and let the skill ask its questions. Answer honestly, even when the answer is uncomfortable: it is precisely the decision that was financially illogical that gives the best material. New to skills and want to understand how this kind of file works first, the knowledge base has the wider explanation of working with AI.
When to use it and when not
This skill is at its strongest at the moments when the message needs to be reformulated: a website being rewritten, a new market you want to enter, an About page that just will not come together, a pitch you do not believe yourself. It also works well when the Why has been there all along but was never written down: then the diagnosis is short and it is mostly about the formulation.
And because the skill delivers three variants instead of one, it also works as a sparring partner alongside a brand session with your team: put the variants next to each other and see where the discussion starts.
If the question is not about your message but about how you make your money, the Hedgehog Concept Coach is the better entry point: it looks for the overlap between what you can excel at, where your economic engine sits and where your passion lies, and delivers a stop list of what to give up alongside it.
There are also situations where you are better off leaving it. What you get is positioning and text, not business strategy: whether you should specialise, which service to drop or which market to choose are decision questions for the Strategic Thinking skill NL, with the SWOT Analysis skill as the inventory beforehand and the PESTEL Analyst skill NL for the surrounding environmental factors. The Why tells you what you stand for, not which direction to take. That difference is often flattened in practice, and whole brand sessions get lost over it.
The biggest limit sits in the input. It digs into what you supply, and if there is nothing there, nothing comes out either. A brand new business with no clients, no history and no decisions made yet has little to dig into: then the Why becomes an intention instead of a conviction. That can work, but be honest about it. And do not confuse the output with the finish line: a Why on paper changes nothing until your homepage, your quotes and your conversations start sounding like it. The three communication patches are the beginning of that, not the end.
Run it yourself, or have it run
reg. G.004This skill is the free do it yourself version of work we also deliver as a service. It stays complete and without any catches, but understand well what a skill is: it teaches your AI how to do something, while every new session starts empty. A skill is not the engine and not the memory. You prompt, you supply the context again every time, you check. Anyone who wants that differently has two next steps: hand over the engine, or sort out the memory.
where you are now The skill: you are the engine You run the AI Golden Circle Coach yourself in Claude, Codex or Cursor. It costs nothing, it works today, and you keep it entirely in your own hands: no trial period, no locked off parts. The limit is your own time: it only happens when you prompt, and you have to tell it your chosen Why again in every new session.
have it prepared The AI employee: it is ready without you prompting This kind of work, but as a service: an AI employee that prepares work daily without you having to sit down at Claude for it, with human final review, because output stays a draft until a person approves it. We deliver this through Mansotti, the company TheSEO trades as, which builds three fixed employees: the Quote employee, the Sales employee and the Reporting employee. Brand texts consistently written in your chosen Why and tone fall under what an employee like that prepares per assignment.
everything from one source Jarvis: all your AIs work from the same company knowledge The skill teaches the AI, the brain is where the memory lives. If you want all your AIs to work from the same company knowledge, that is Jarvis, the organisation brain. It connects ChatGPT, Claude, Codex and your people to the same projects, core knowledge and decisions, so your next AI session does not start over. This matters especially for this skill: a Why only works if every text lines up with it, and that does not happen if every AI session starts blank. What that delivers in practice, from the plans to your first week, is at Jarvis itself.
What Jarvis actually delivers
reg. G.005Step 3 deserves more than a paragraph, because this is the difference between a clever chat and a system you can build on. Jarvis is the organisation brain: it remembers what your AIs need to know, divides the work and keeps track of what happened. For a brand this is concrete: you choose your Why once, and after that every text an AI writes for you should line up with it. You notice it first at the start of a new session.
We have been running on this system ourselves for months. Every agent session, every task and every decision is logged in it and can be read back. A new session therefore does not start blank: it first fetches the recorded decisions, the running projects and the latest changes, and carries on where the previous one stopped. So we are not describing a promise but the way we work every day.
See all four plans at jarvis/prijzen NL. Through the waitlist NL you only pass on your preferred plan, without obligation. That does not create an account, an order or a duty to pay yet. We discuss business bespoke work first.

What does the AI Golden Circle Coach skill cost?
Nothing. The skill is free, falls under the MIT licence and you do not have to create an account or leave an email address. You download a 4.0 KB zip containing one folder and a single file, SKILL.md, and that is the complete skill. There is no paid version and no sales email follows.
Does this skill work in Codex, Cursor or Gemini CLI?
Yes. SKILL.md has been an open standard since December 2025, so the same file works in Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and other tools that follow the standard. In Codex you unzip it into .agents/skills/ in your project, or into ~/.agents/skills/ for all your projects; Codex has supported SKILL.md directly since the open standard of December 2025. Pasting the contents of SKILL.md into your AGENTS.md still works too. The instructions themselves are plain readable text, so any AI assistant that accepts instruction files can handle it.
Is this skill official from Simon Sinek?
No, and the file says so literally: the skill only uses publicly described concepts from Start With Why and Find Your Why and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Simon Sinek or his organisation. So you get the method as Sinek has publicly described it, applied by Claude, not an official Sinek product.
Why is a trade term not allowed in the Why?
Because a Why, according to the requirements in the file, also has to work outside the office. The skill tests every formulation against six requirements: no jargon, no trade terms, one sentence, starting with a verb, feeling personal rather than corporate, and a friend would be able to say it about you too. As soon as SEO, consultancy or platform appears in your Why, you are describing what you sell, not why you exist.
Do I have to answer all five diagnosis questions?
No. If you already give plenty of context at the start, the skill skips the diagnosis or only asks about the missing pieces. The five questions are there in case you do not yet have a sharp picture yourself: they cover, among other things, the moment you started, what would be missing if your business disappeared tomorrow, and the decision that was financially illogical but that you are proud of.
What exactly do I get back once the skill is done?
Always the same six blocks, in fixed order: a diagnosis summary of three to five sentences, three Why variants with the nuance per variant, three to five How principles, a What list of five to ten concrete items, three communication patches for your homepage hero, LinkedIn bio and elevator pitch, and finally the Sinek test with a follow-up question.
Can the skill also make my brand strategy or campaign?
No. The skill builds out your Golden Circle and translates it into three concrete texts, nothing more. Logo, house style, campaigns and media choices fall outside it, and a complete brand story in customer journey form is the territory of the StoryBrand Writer skill from the same library. Also important: the quality depends on your answers, because the skill does not invent a business that does not exist.
A sharp Why needs readers
A sharp Why does its work at the moment somebody is on your site wondering whether you are the right fit for them. That moment has to exist in the first place. If you are barely being found on the subjects your Why is about, that is the first job. The free SEO scan shows in a few seconds where your site stands, and the improving SEO service takes it on structurally.
