In short

A click is evidence. Its cause is not.

Use the guide to choose a measurement question before rearranging the page. It explains the settings, retained data and the boundary between a counted click, a possible explanation and a properly tested change.

Not verified; the language discrepancy remains open

How do I avoid treating a heatmap pattern as proof that a design change improved my site?

Choose a decision before a page

Write down the page, its main action and what you are prepared to change based on the measurement. A map counts where clicks land and how far people get. It does not explain intent: curiosity, confusion and enthusiasm can leave the same mark.

Know the starting settings

Measuring starts off. Logged-in users are excluded, scroll measurement is enabled and Do Not Track is respected. Retention starts at 90 days. The settings illustration uses example counts, so it does not certify a customer installation or a real collection of events.

Download does not start tracking

The guide links version 2.1.0, wp-ux-heatmap-2.1.0.zip, reported as 82 KB, under GPLv2 or later. It names WordPress 6.0+, PHP 7.4+ and manage_options permission. Upload, activate and enable measuring separately. No account or key is needed; guided-installation fees are not stated.

Deactivating is not deleting

The described event data includes positions, window size, depth and a temporary page-view identifier. It does not build a personal journey. Deactivation keeps measurements, while removing the plugin deletes the table and settings. An update from an older version can irreversibly remove previous visitor-data columns.

A difference is not a cause

A new layout makes old click positions less meaningful. Change one thing at a time and compare, but the plugin itself runs no A/B test. Its stated script size is not a promise about your whole site’s loading time. Consent and privacy decisions remain yours with your adviser.

Do not assume a translated ZIP

This guide describes English screens with a Dutch translation included. The product page describes English screens with no translation, for the same version. The discrepancy has not been resolved by executing the file; keep the original package and check language support before relying on it.
