Website for locksmiths: a site that gets a call instead of a browse

Whoever opens your page is usually standing outside their own front door with no time to spare. A locksmith site is therefore built back to front: the number, opening hours and rate first, and the story only after that. We build it in WordPress, light enough to load outdoors and honest enough to remove the doubt this trade simply carries.

FIG.01 · The tap counter: how many steps between landing and calling

Four structures, the same visitor, a different number of steps

Counted directly on the diagram: every link in the chain is a step the visitor has to take before they have you on the line. This is a comparison of four ways to show a number, not a measurement of visitor behaviour.

taps-to-callfour structures, the same visitor
Number above the fold page openstap the number 1tap
Number in the footer page opensswipe downtap the number 2taps
Number on the contact page page opensopen the menuchoose contacttap the number 3taps
Form only page opensconsent pop-upfill in the formwait for a reply 0calls right now

How to read this. Not a measurement but a count of steps: you can recount it on your own site with your phone in hand. The bottom line is the structure you see with many trade businesses, and it doesn't work for emergencies, because the caller is standing outside with no time to wait for a reply. Every step you remove between the first second and the call is a gain you don't have to buy with advertising budget.

01 · THE BRIEF
02 · AVAILABILITY

Only put 24 hours a day on there if you actually answer

Almost every locksmith puts 24/7 on their website. Some of them don't answer at three in the morning, and that's the most expensive silence in this trade. A caller who dials your number and gets voicemail doesn't call again; they call the next one on the list, and often leave a review about the company that didn't answer.

That's why we put on the site what's actually true, and make it visible by time of day

If you answer yourself until eleven and a colleague covers the night, that's exactly what it says. If you don't answer at night, it says when you do, and what someone can do in the meantime. That reads more honestly and it pays off more, because the caller you reach is a job, and the caller you miss is a bad review.

Those same opening hours should say exactly the same thing in three places: on your website, in your Google Business Profile and on your voicemail

If those don't match, your profile is the problem, not your site. How you fix that, and why the profile often gets seen before your website in an emergency, is in the guide local SEO for locksmiths NL.

03 · TRUST

Your rates on the page are your strongest point of difference

This trade has a reputation problem that isn't yours but reflects on you anyway. There are providers who resell an enquiry on, and there are stories about bills that turn out to be several times what was said on the phone. Every caller who finds you carries those stories with them.

That's why we always put three things above the fold on a locksmith site: the call-out fee, an indication of what opening an ordinary front door costs, and the line saying when those figures differ. That isn't a price list but an expectation, and that expectation is exactly where the doubt sits. Whoever removes it first wins the call from whoever promises they'll be there within fifteen minutes.

The same goes for who you are

A genuine address, a business registration number, a face and the service area in plain place names do more in this trade than a quality mark logo the visitor doesn't recognise. If you put a quality mark on the site, add what it means and where it can be checked. Logos get faked in this trade, and a logo without an explanation raises exactly the question you were trying to remove.

04 · SPEED
FIG.02: The load waterfall: what's arrived before they callsheet 2/2

The order the page arrives in, not its speed

There's deliberately no time axis under this diagram, because loading time depends on the device and the signal of that one caller. What it does show is the order: the number, the location and the rate need to be in the first band, and the logo can come after.

arrivingon the waydone

number, location, ratethe three things they came for
the typefaceuntil then they're reading a system font
logo and iconsrecognition, not an answer
photos of the van and the worktrust, but only after the decision
map and chat windowload from another server

How to read this. This is an order, not a measurement: exactly where the line falls depends on the device, the signal and the moment. The ordering itself doesn't change. The two red lines aren't badly built, they've just been placed too early in the structure. A map and a chat window fetch their files from another server and so end up at the back of the queue, even when they sit at the top of the page. Put them below the fold, only let photos load once someone scrolls down, and the top two lines are in before someone with wet hands has even unlocked their screen.

05 · PRICE AND PROCESS

What a locksmith website costs, and how we build it

We don't set a website's price upfront by trade but by build. We start with an intake, put together a draft design, and then map the pages out together in a flowchart. The figure follows from that flowchart: every page is work, and the number of pages is the basis for the quote. For a locksmith, that tree usually comes out small, and that's good news for your budget.

What does come with it is that the site keeps being accurate after launch

Opening hours change, rates change, and a site that doesn't keep up starts lying to your callers. Maintenance and security therefore run separately, and what that covers exactly is on WordPress maintenance and security NL.

If you want to be found alongside the site without paying for every click, the organic route in this trade isn't a bonus but the main road

What that involves and what it costs is on outsourcing SEO for locksmiths. We work with one company per trade and per region, so as long as your region is free, it's yours to claim.

06 · QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions about a website for locksmiths

Does my phone number really need to be at the top?

Yes, and visibly tappable. A caller standing outside isn't going to go searching. The tap counter on this page shows the difference: a number above the fold costs one tap, a number on the contact page costs three, and a site with only a form gets zero calls in that moment. The form can stay for people who aren't in a hurry, but it isn't the main route.

Can I put 24 hours a day on my website?

Only if you actually answer. A caller who gets voicemail doesn't call back, they call the next one. We put the hours on the site exactly as they are, by time of day, and make sure your website, Google Business Profile and voicemail all say the same thing. That brings in more jobs than a promise you don't keep at night.

Why would I put my rates on the site?

Because your customer's doubt is about the bill, not about your craftsmanship. A call-out fee and an indication for opening an ordinary front door, with the line added for when it differs, remove exactly that doubt. You get fewer price shoppers on the line and more callers who know what to expect.

What does a website for a locksmith cost?

We only determine that after the intake and the draft design, based on the number of pages in the flowchart. For an emergency trade that flowchart usually comes out small, because you need fewer pages than most business owners think. That way you pay for what you use, not for a structure you never fill in.

07 · Next step

Shall we rebuild your emergency site?

A first conversation is free and carries no obligation. We look at your current page with a phone in hand, count the steps to the call, and say honestly whether a rebuild is enough or a new site pays off faster. If you work in a different trade, the shared approach is at having a website made for trade businesses; emergencies work the same way there as here.
