The market is in a state of collective denial. Our survey of over 500 data points shows that the fundamentals on which the internet has run over the past 20 years have changed rapidly. This report debunks four persistent illusions:
The shift from text to video has often been dismissed in the media as an ‘attention span problem’ among young people. We collected eye tracking and bandwidth data with a limited group of students (53) at Avans college in Q3 2025. We processed this data in Q1 2026, this showed that we are dealing with a kind of reprogramming of the human brain. Text is no longer seen by consumers as a source of information, but as a barrier to information. Pages that used video even if only in the background had on average 50% longer retention than pages that did not. Text, with the exception of H1 titles were practically skipped, even with topics in which students had genuine interest.
Based on this data, we introduced a new metric: TTV (Time-To-Video). This measures a user's tolerance to stay on a web page when there is video and how long it takes them to search for a playable video before they leave the page (bounce). This has a nuance, as a video playing in background without adding value had the same impact as a video.
While the ‘young consumer’ demands video almost exclusively, something else is happening on the back end. AI (machines that autonomously scan the web) cannot “watch” videos the way humans do. They look for structured data. A company in 2026 that wants to be prepared in 2027-2030 need to play AI in the background and distract people with video. The front end consists of video content. The backend contains only raw API endpoints and CoC verifications for the AI search engines.
The biggest misconception in business anno 2026 is that AI will replace all jobs one-to-one. AI is drastically changing the nature of work. We are transforming from a society of ‘Makers’ to a society of ‘Debuggers’, but AI is replacing almost nothing in daily life anymore.
Whereas US markets were quick to integrate AI into decision-making processes, the Dutch market shows a healthy reluctance. The Dutchman demands efficiency but hates loss of control. Our survey shows that 84% refuse to let an AI autonomously carry out a financial transaction over €60.07. AI integrations that are successful operate on the ‘iDeal principle’: the AI does all the heavy lifting, but humans have to press the approval button. We call this the ‘Debugger moment’.
To understand workplace dynamics, we surveyed 840 developers and managers through online surveys. Here we found a shocking blind spot:
Until mid-2024, the rule was: seeing is believing. In today's 2026 digital ecosystem, visual evidence has significantly lost its value. The timeline of an average Dutch person contains an average of 24% ‘AI-Slop’ (extreme cases of 78%), this is also related to the platform YouTube shorts and Instagram (45%) LinkedIn, which most B2B decision-makers used contained only 3% of AI-generated content, this has the average considerably. What our research shows is that the human response to this is not rejection, but psychological apathy.
We spoke to 77 Dutch people in the North Brabant and Utrecht region and presented them with a visual Turing test in 2025 Q4 (10 videos, 8 of which were AI-generated):
The most disruptive macroeconomic shift is currently taking place in the creator economy and platforms. Whereas the product used to be the ‘authentic connection’, this model has been overtaken by the scalability of generative AI. An individual operator can use AI to manage dozens of photorealistic personas interacting 24/7. It destroyed the ‘micro-influencers” the ‘OR models” and small actresses and actors, this is not necessarily a bad thing, but the earlier statement of that AI does not have jobs 1 on 1 once again takes exception.
We spent €12,000 on ad budget on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram From the data of 1.2 million A/B-tested ad impressions, an extremely specific, winning data point combination emerged for companies looking to automate their brand face:

In order to survive, companies need to keep the B2M (Business-to-Machine) Paradox embrace. Based on our research, we recommend implementing the following 4-step plan:
The irony of AI is not that machines imitate humans, but that humans are beginning to prefer the machine to humans. Visual authenticity is obsolete. Companies that cling to the illusion of text, organic humanity and traditional search engines will be significantly less relevant digitally within 36 months. The future belongs to organisations that master the B2M paradox: Synthetic entertainment on the front end, verifiable data on the back end.
The market's blind spot
